Cypraea Tigris/Tiger Cowrie(Linne1758)
The Tiger Cowrie is a familiar shell to many people.This is very common Indo-Pacific reef species is exported by the ton to USA and Europe for the tourist trade.In early 1900s,specimens with the Lord ‘s Prayer etched by acid on the top surface were popular.The attractive brown mottling can be quite variable and occasionally solid black shells turn up.Tiger Cowrie from Hawaii are not common and these often extra -large specimens command high prices.Pure white albino shells are extremely rare and are the most difficult variation to obtain.
