Hippopus hippopus, the bear paw clam, horse’s hoof clam or strawberry clam, is a species of large saltwater clam, a tropical marine bivalve mollusk in the subfamily Tridacninae, the giant clam morphological group.The scientific name hippopus comes from Ancient Greek for “horse foot” (ἵππος, hippos, “horse,” and πούς, pous, “foot”).The shell of this clam is very thick & heavy with prominent ribs, and has reddish blotches making it easy to differentiate from other clams.
