Description

Turbinella Pyrum(Natural)

A solid, heavy shell with a very inflated body whorl, a short spire, and a long, broad siphonal canal. The shell is smooth or has low lumps at the shoulder and spiral ridges at the base of the body whorl. Underneath a thick periostracum, the shell is milk-white, often tinged pink. Indian chanks are sent to Bengal to be made into jewelry and ornaments.Turbinella pyrum, common name the chank shell, sacred chank or chank, also known as the divine conch, sometimes referred to simply as a conch, is a species of very large sea snail with a gill and an operculum, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Turbinellidae. This species occurs in the Indian Ocean.
